Live Painting!
Something a little different happened this weekend – I was invited to attend as a guest artist for the grand opening of Merkur Casino in Milton Keynes, in collaboration with Nugget Events. The brief was quite simple … rock up and paint! Well, it sounds simple, right?! Not really, there was thought and a process to follow that was required to make this happen. A lot was planned for the evening, including a huge live prize draw, 10k cash was the top prize, imagine that! There was so much entertainment for the guests too; every time I looked up, something else caught my attention.
I produced three specific jackets for this event – A Freddie Mercury/Queen Live at MK Bowl 1982, a Milton Keynes neon lights/Vegas style piece specifically for a special guest, and for the live painting piece I picked Yungblud, this specifically as a celebration of his sell out event ‘Bludfest’ which has become an annual event held at Milton Keynes Bowl. I looked at all the iconic acts to have graced MK over the years – Queen, Oasis, Robbie Williams, and incorporated this into my overall display by bringing jackets I had already produced (you can see them here).
The evening absolutely FLEW! The flow of guests was constant from the doors’ opening to the end of the event at midnight. I managed to get a big chunk of the base on the yungblud denim, but as so many people were curious as to what I was doing and had many, many questions, I probably spent as much time chatting as painting – memories of gigs attended at MK bowl, shared passions for bands and their music so I loved every second of it! I gave out all my biz cards, a few people went away happy with impulse purchases (and sore heads after all the champagne!) it really was an interesting evening meeting new people and catching up with some familiar faces.
